Public schools are part of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District and are highly rated. Included are School #1 Elementary School, William J.. McGinn Elementary, Howard B. Brunner Elementary, Evergreen Elementary,Park Middle School, Terrill Middle School and Fanwood High School. Other very highly rated schools in Scotch Plains include the Academy for Information Technology, the Academy for Performing Arts and Union County Magnet High School. A private school for elementary grades PK-8 is St. Bartholomew Academy.

Management, professional and related occupations head the list of workers. Major companies are found throughout the New Jersey area, especially technology companies. Many residents work in Newark or in Manhattan.
